Is Tequila a traditional MEXICAN drink?

If not do you know any traditional mexican drinks?

Tequila is a traditional Mexican drink. Margaritas are not, they’ve been designed for tourists.

In what ways is a traditional Mexican chocolate cake different from a traditional American chocolate cake?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Mexican Traditional

First of all, lets talk about the difference between Mexican chocolate and "American" chocolate.
Mexican chocolate has been flavored with cinnamon, almonds and vanilla. It is available in Mexican markets and is commonly used for hot chocolate or mole sauces. It is more pure, therefore more perishable than the chocolate we Americans are used to. American chocolate is more processed and sweeter than Mexican and has ingredients (like wax) added to extend it’s shelf life.
Secondly, some Mexican Chocolate cake recipes are more for an adult tastes than a childs as they may include chili powder, cayenne pepper or balsamic vinegar! (but they can be sweet as well)
In Mexico this cake is called Pastel de Chocolate.

Is it a bad idea to eat pinto beans at traditional Mexican restuarants?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Mexican Traditional

I am assuming a lot of them are cooked with lard and meat and you’d never know, am I right?

Just ask them how they are cooked, if it’s w/ lard or shortening, meat drippings or not. They may actually be vegetarian.

how do I throw a traditional mexican third birthday party for my daughter?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Mexican Traditional

In mexico little girls will have an extravagant 3rd birthday just like a quinceanera but I cant find anything about the traditional stuff that goes on does anyone know any thing? help!

A traditional mexican birthday party would involve traditional mexican food, songs, dances, clothes and of course a pinata. Traditional mexican music would be mariachi, such as Vicente Fernandez, or corridos, such as Los Cadetes. The foods would have to be tamales, mole, posole, carne asada, pollo rostisado or stuff like that. The clothes for a girl would be those beautiful and colorful dresses from mexico. For the guys caballero out fits or mariachi outfits. As far as the dances, i’m not sure. Theres duranguense, bachata, but these arnt really traditional, these are kinda newer.

How does one prepare traditional Mexican meals the healthy way to promote weight loss?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Mexican Traditional

Things like Spanish rice, flour tortillas, and/or refried beans just to name a few. Is there some kind of web site that I can find this info out or does some one out there know?

Of all of my favorite cuisines that I have tried to adapt to a healthier lifestyle, Mexican has been the most difficult for me. There is no "one" good source (that I can find, anyway), but there are two places to go for ideas. One is a website that promotes "reverse dieting," which is simply the idea of eating your biggest meal at breakfast and your smallest meal at dinner. This site recently put up a number of "healthy version" Mexican dishes. It’s a good site to know about anyway, so I’ve provided the web address below. The second source is the Hungry Girl website. This is a fun site to know about and generally promotes healthy food alternatives and lots of good ideas. You’ll need to get on it and search around a little bit, but in the past they have published lots of lower-fat Mexican recipes.

Good luck. You’ll probably have to take it recipe by recipe, but the recipes you do find will give you ideas for how to cut down on the calories in other recipes that you can’t find but want to make.

is there a traditional gift for a friend to give for a sweet sixteen party, in the mexican tradition?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Mexican Traditional

Our son has been invited to a friend’s party, and she’s let him know it’s a traditional Mexican sweet sixteen party.

Are there traditional gifts that would be best to buy or does the tradition making all rest with the family?

tia
Thanks, guys. It is a 15th birthday party – my son mistranslated. I’m taking him now, armed with good gift suggestions.

Don’t worry, usual gifts are the right.
Clothes, jewels, parfums; you know, girl things.
In Mexico this celebretion is at fifteen years, not at sixteen; it is called "fiesta de quince años" (fifteen years party) and she is called "quinceañera".
She is going to dance the vals with several "chambelanes" (boys in "ridiculous" clothes, like military or in frac or anything the "quinceañera" wants. This is just how I felt when I was invited as "chambelán" when I was teenager), then she will dance with his father and his godfther too.
Enjoy the party. Don’t worry about the gifts, just normal girl gifts. Keep in mind it is supossed than it means she is no longer a child girl, but a woman, so, remember that while you are looking for the presents.
