Healthy Mexican Food?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Healthy Mexican Food

I’m on a diet and we are getting ready to go out to an authentic Mexican Restaraunt. What would be considered semi-healthy? What about a chicken quesadilla with no cheese and just salsa? Or something along those lines?

Bean and rice are healthy. Stay away from red meat (carne asada, for example), and stick with chicken. Guacamole, while good for you, is fattening. Any of the salsas should be good for you; tomatoes and onions. Unless you know the cheese is low-fat, I would avoid it.

Taquitos aren’t too bad for you… as far as I know.

I’m sure they have salads there. Get a tostada salad, those are good.

depends on what kind of diet you are on. If you are low carb, I’d go for fajitas minus the tortillas, but if you are just eating light you could try anything without a thick sauce. If it is authentic Mex it should be more healthy than tex-mex, which is nothing but cheese. if they have it, try the Caldo (not sure if I spelled it correctly) but it is a delicous soup that is pretty healthy and very filling!

Fish or chicken tacos. Just limit yourself to one or two, even if more come on the plate. And most mexican restaurants have some sort of salad. Guacamole Salads or Fajita salads are delish! (just dont eat the taco shell if it comes in one).

and of course ask for toppings like cheese and sour cream on the side!
