Can a casserole dish be used as an alternative for a dutch oven?

I’m making a mexican dish..carne guisada for the first time. The recipe calls for me to cook the dish up to 3 hours in a oven proof dutch oven. Alternatives on the dutch oven please?
An oven proof covered casserole dish should work as long as the temp is not too high for the dish. The maximum oven temp should be listed on the bottom of the dish. ♥
