Is mexican food tacky?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Mexican Food Recipes

My boyfriend and I are thinkin about having mexican food at the reception instead of the ‘traditional’ food (steak, etc). Both of our families love mexican food, so nobody would be left with nothing to eat, although if there were any dietary restrictions we would of course allow for those. I know it’s OUR wedding, but would it be tacky or weird to have it at our wedding?!

Have you been to any weddings where they served mexican? it would be catered, of course. I haven’t been to many weddings, and have never heard of anybody doing mexican, but I come from a small town.

Mexican food is too delicious to be tacky. But very messy and prone to staining, so I would have a much more casual reception so people aren’t ruining their formalwear.

I am incapable of consuming anything with ground beef and any kind of sauce without having half of it fall on my clothes. Maybe I’m just a slob. >.<

I’ve never heard of anyone having Mexican food at their wedding reception but I don’t think it’d be tacky, I think it’d be awesome and unique! Make sure you have tamales, they’re a Mexican celebration staple!!

(if you’re getting married in October or November you could do a Dia De Los Muertos themed reception)

It is your wedding and you can serve what ever you like and it is a plus that everyone like Mexican food. And if you fix only things that everyone can eat, then I do not think it is tacky.

I’ve never heard of anyone doing mexican food at their wedding, but you certainly could do it. It’s your day, and you should serve whatever you like. I’ve even heard of people serving hot dogs at their formal weddings. Mexican food is a perfectly acceptable wedding food selection. Best wishes!

If that’s what you want and your families both love it, then serve it. Lots of weddings serve Mexican food whether the couple is Hispanic or not. I don’t understand why it would be weird or rude. Not to mention, you can get catering from your favorite Mexican restaurant alot cheaper than you can for the same menu from a wedding caterer and the food will probably be better.

I went to a wedding where we had an all you can eat buffet served in a barn with BBQ. It was fantastic and so much fun and it totally fit the bride and groom. I say just have an alternative for people who can’t handle spicy, and for kids who can’t or won’t eat the Mexican food, and you’ll be all set!

It’s not tacky at all! In fact, my reception is at this really nice golf resort, and they have the option of Mexican food for the meal :) I wanted to go with it, because I love it! Good luck :)

Maybe if you have cocktail hour use things like mini burritos and "taquitos" and for your meal have a chicken in mole sauce, black beans, spanish rice and in addition to cake maybe offer flan or some sopapillas…

    now I’m hungry.
