Isn't funny how Mexico is worried about tortilla prices?

I am not making fun, I am Mexican….I was just seeing on the news how tortilla prices are worrying the poor in Mexico. I guess Mexicans love their tortillas..I do!
It is only funny if you are completely insensitive to the impact of even a small increase in the price of THE staple food for most Mexicans. Tortillas are part, in some form (tortillas, tostadas, nachos, etc.) of EVERY meal for the poor majority. And since these people cannot go without the basic food they need, something else will have to go, like school books for the kids, or new shoes, or even force them to change from fresh milk for their kids to cheaper powdered milk.
Isn't it funny, as a Mexican, that you don't already know this. No, come to think of it, it isn't funny at all; it is very sad.

From what ive seen, Mexicans often use Tortillas for breakfast, Lunch and dinner………..
I drink milk with all my food, so id be mad if i couldnt afford that…

well yeah they eat alot of tortillas! Most mexicans are poor,and what concerns them is that its going up and their not gonna be able to buy some other stuff! They just dont buy a kilo of tortillas they buy kilos to eat,imagine eating tortillas at breakfast,lunch,dinner! A kilo of tortillas cost from 12-15 pesos and some places MORE!…its about 1.20-1.50 in dlls! Add it up if u got a family of 5,u cant eat with a kilo for breakfast or what ever u gotta, buy several kilos to eat! Lets say u have a family of 5 and u need 3-4 kilos,do the math! Thats almost 4-5 dlls when the average worker makes 10-15 dlls a day working! Do u understand why people are concerned,not everybody in mexico carries a 1000 dlls in their pocket! Arnt we glad that we arnt poor,we gotta think before we ask questions like these on ANSWERS! This question is like when people ask,can we drink the water in mexico,we cant drink water in most U.S citys,what makes u think u can drink water from a 3rd world country! Lets think with our head not with our mouth,in this case fingers!

Not funny at all. Staple food has all gone up here in Mexico: beans, milk, sugar, etc.. Apparently growing corn for motor fuel isn't the answer.

Is not a funny subject, tortilla is the main source of food for us Mexicans, in a country that 17% of the people don´t have enough money to forfil their basic needs as food is, tortillas is a big isue….. is bigger than for americans is the price of Gas, since you don´t eat Gasoline…..is bigger than the fact that right now is too expensive for americans to go to Europe and see that the old mighty Dollar is not so mighty nowadays…
Food prices world wide are growing big time, part of it is because the price of oil, part because India and China are developing fast, and they are demanding more food, since they alone have a 1/3 of all the world's population; part of it is because USA is using more and more Bio Diesel that comes from corn and therefore increasing the demand of corn, and last but not least the devaluation of the US dolar, since tha largest commoditie markets in the world like CME or NYCE are in the USA everything quotes in US Dollar and since its loosing value, prices rise, you need more dollars to buy corn, rice, wheat, etc. etc.
So it is a big problem all over this planet
